The Site Services Supervisor provides active leadership, guidance and supervisory responsibilities in the administration of all site operations and maintenance functions at the Edmonton Valley Zoo (EVZ) and associated facilities within the Arts Heritage & Nature Experiences Section including the John Janzen Nature Centre (JJNC), City Arts Centre (CAC), Prince of Wales Armouries (POWA) and John Walter Museum (JWM). Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, this position sets the direction for annual and long term operational and site maintenance plans. The position provides oversight to all site services staff for effective, efficient and well maintained grounds and facilities year round.

This is a fulltime position with the Animal Care Team at the Magnetic Hill Zoo and Park.
Duties and work primarily include taking the responsibility of maintaining the highest level of animal welfare of an area of the zoo. This includes both proactive and reactive planning, management and communication with zoo superiors and other departments.
The incumbent reports to the Service Foreman - Animal Care, Magnetic Hill Zoo & Park.

Animal Care Supervisor (ID: 51808)
The Animal Care Supervisor provides leadership, management and supervisory responsibilities in the administration of all animal care functions at the Edmonton Valley Zoo (EVZ) and John Janzen Nature Centre (JJNC). Reporting directly to the Operations Supervisor, the successful candidate has demonstrated knowledge and skill pertaining to the health, care and well-being of a broad zoological collection including species specific care standards, environmental exhibit design and maintenance, husbandry protocols and best practices, implementation and development of animal training and enrichment programs, welfare monitoring, animal nutrition and working safely with dangerous animals. The position supervises and manages all animal care staff and daily activities in accordance with provincial, national and international standards of care as set out by the Canadian Accredited Zoos and Aquariums and industry best practices in animal welfare and husbandry.

The animal keeper is responsible for the day-to-day husbandry of the animal collection and issues pertaining to wildlife across the zoo; maintaining the quality standards of accredited zoological practices. The animal keeper will maintain high standards of maintenance and care for a diverse collection of animals. Responsibilities include: animal husbandry and welfare, exhibit maintenance, guest services, diet preparation, enrichment, record keeping and related duties as required. The animal keeper may be required to work with or within other departments. The animal keeper will adhere to all health and safety regulations, legislation and policies.
