OTTAWA (April 28, 2020) –
Canada’s 30 accredited zoos and aquariums are monitoring provincial government re-opening plans. Executive Director Jim Facette said, “it’s important for our accredited zoo and aquarium members to have a clear understanding of how they fit into any plan going forward.”
As provincial governments develop and announce framework plans to re-open their respective provinces Canada’s 30 accredited zoos and aquariums are parks, outdoors spaces are adaptable to any physical distancing measures. Mr. Facette added, “we have taken extra measures during this pandemic to ensure essential staff respect physical distancing, these measures can be adapted as we welcome the public.”
Canada’s 30 accredited zoos and aquariums are both parks and with significant public spaces, fitting a zoo and or an aquarium fits into a neat definition is unique. Mr. Facette added, “We think we can open at the earliest part of any plan while respecting all necessary procedures. Our accredited members would really benefit from knowing where they fit.”
