For an individual or corporation, joining CAZA means joining a growing community of professionals committed to animal welfare, conservation and to making a difference in their community and in the world. It means an opportunity to network and to share in the lessons from some of the most exciting and important conservation and research work being done anywhere in the world. And it means supporting a strong national voice for accredited zoos and aquariums.
Professional Fellow members shall be persons who are employed full time in a management capacity by an accredited Institutional member.
Professional Fellow membership applications shall first be endorsed by their Institutional Chief Executive and one Professional Fellow, Retired Professional Fellow or Director Emeritus. All Institutional Chief Executives require endorsement by a combination of two Professional Fellows, Retired Professional Fellows or Director Emeritus – one of whom must be from an organization other than that of the applicant.
Professional Fellow members shall enjoy full membership privileges including the right to vote, to be elected to the Board of Directors and to serve as an officer in CAZA.
MEMBERSHIP FEE: $100
Membership privileges include:

- Members rates for the member and spouse or partner when registering for CAZA conferences and workshops
- Right to attend and vote at the CAZA Annual General Meeting
- Right to attend and participate in special meetings of voting members.
- Access to the Members’ Only area of the CAZA website.
- Right to participate as inspectors on accreditation inspection teams
- Right to participate as members of the Accreditation Commission, the Nominating Committee and the Ethics and Compliance Committee.
Retired Professional Fellow members shall be retired persons who have been Professional Fellow members in good standing for the last ten years and have made meaningful contributions to CAZA as determined by the Board of Directors. Retired Professional Fellows shall enjoy core membership privileges, except the right to vote and hold elective office. For the purpose of this membership, retirement means the termination of regular employment due to age or health, in accordance with the standard retirement policies of the member’s employer. Application to this category can be made by the Fellow member candidate or by a Board member on behalf of the candidate.

Professional Affiliate Members shall be persons who are employed in a non-management capacity by a CAZA accredited institutional member. Professional Affiliate membership applications shall be endorsed by the Institutional chief executive. Professional Affiliate members will enjoy core membership privileges except the right to vote and hold office in CAZA.

Associate Members shall be persons who are interested in supporting and promoting the objectives of the CAZA. Associate membership applications must be endorsed by a Professional Fellow, a Retired Professional Fellow or Director Emeritus. Associate members will enjoy core membership privileges except the right to vote and hold office in CAZA. Applicants who qualify for another membership class may not be elected as an Associate.

Supporting Affiliate Member are organizations such as Zoo Societies or Zoo Friends groups that subscribe to and support the purpose and objectives of CAZA and an accredited member institution. Supporting Affiliates must not have responsibility for the management of any animal collections. Supporting Affiliate applications must first be endorsed by one Professional Fellow, a Retired Professional Fellow or Director Emeritus, and second the Director of the institution they are affiliated with. Supporting Affiliates will enjoy core membership privileges except the right to vote and hold office in CAZA. One individual must be identified as the named member.

Commercial Affiliate Members are companies or individuals that service the zoo and aquarium profession and who subscribe to the purpose and objectives of CAZA. Commercial Affiliate Members shall not house wildlife. All applications shall first be endorsed by a combination of two (2) Professional Fellow, Retired Professional Fellows or Director Emeritus without a direct interest in the applicant’s business. Commercial Affiliates will enjoy core membership privileges (see below) except the right to vote and hold office in the Association. One individual must be identified as the named member.

- Membership rates for the member and spouse or partner when registering for CAZA conferences and workshops
- Right to attend the CAZA Annual General Meeting
- Access to the Members’ Only area of the CAZA website.
- Recognition as a supporter of CAZA in the Spring and Fall edition of CAZA Connections
Student members shall be persons who are interested in, and supportive of, the objectives of CAZA. Student members must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and be preparing themselves for professional work in the zoological park or aquarium profession. Student members must be endorsed by a Professional Fellow, a Retired Professional Fellow or Director Emeritus. Student members enjoy core membership privileges (see below) except the right to vote and hold office in CAZA.

Educational Affiliate Members shall be certified organizations, such as museums and science centers, that are open to the public and whose primary function is to educate visitors on aspects of natural history and for whom the animal collection is a small part of the overall display. The animal collection must be maintained throughout the year and from year to year. Animals may be used in offsite educational activities but must reside in the applicant facility for the majority of the year. An on-site inspection and certification must occur prior to the application being approved. Educational Affiliates will enjoy all membership privileges except the right to vote and hold office in CAZA.
A $250.00 filing fee is required on submission of application, institution must pay travel and other costs associated with the site inspection. One individual must be identified as the named member.
